How "Sweet" It Is

I had the recent (and by recent I mean a few hours ago) pleasure of having lunch at Sweet Melissa in Rocky River. Sweet Melissa is located on Detroit Rd. across from Beachcliff Market Square. If you have never had the pleasure of eating here, you have NO idea what you've been missing. Today, I dined with one of my favorite foodie friends... my mom. She was treating me to a belated Valentine's lunch. We started with appetizers. We ordered fried green tomatoes (her choice) and fried brussel sprouts (my choice) Oh goodness. They were fantastic. I mean, really fantastic in that "pinch me, I think I'm dreaming" kind of way. The tomatoes were served with a chunky cranberry apple relish and horseradish sauce. The sprouts? They were coated in a ponzu and honey concoction and served along side a sweet chili dipping sauce. My favorite of the two was the brussel sprouts... hands down. That being said, I have a confession to make. I don't even like brussel sprouts. I only ordered them because I figured that deep frying anything makes it taste better... by default. Also, I am trying really hard to re-visit things I have tried and not liked in the past. I think it sets a good example for my little foodie. Anyway... I digress. Let's talk about our entrees. Shall we? Okay. I ordered a Sedona Cobb Salad. According to the menu it is a "grilled beef tenderloin, avocado, tomatoes, bacon, scallion, roasted corn, black beans, sharp white cheddar, corn tortilla strips, romaine, chipotle vinaigrette" salad.  According to me it was a "delicious mix of crunchy tortillas, tender beef and earthy vegetables." It was definitely a meal and I would definitely order it again. My mom decided to have something a little more "traditional" meatloaf, mashed potatoes and veggies. As I type the word traditional, it makes me smile because her meal was anything but. Her meatloaf? It was wrapped in bacon. You heard me. Bacon. The veggies? Tender spears of asparagus. To top it all off, the meatloaf and mash were smothered in this rich wild mushroom demi-glace. If the food wasn't enough of an incentive to go back, the restaurant itself is cute as a button and the servers make you feel right at home. So, next date night or Girl's Night Out, make sure you and the people you love make it over to Sweet Melissa. You won't be sorry.
