The name of this place says it all. Although, I would be perfectly content to call it any of the following; Oh My Goodness, Lord Have Mercy, Can I Live Here?… Everything I tasted was out of bounds. Let me stop drooling for a second and backtrack just a bit. I first heard of Lucky’s on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives. I don’t know if you are a fan of the show or its famous blond haired host…. but I know I am. I was even more excited when I learned that Lucky’s was a mere 6 minute drive from where I work. What? 6 minutes? I could practically walk. (Side note: Just because I could… doesn’t mean I’m gonna, but that’s another post) Anywho…after the episode aired I looked up the full menu online and was blown away. Everything looked/sounded delicious. Well I figured that I would save this little gem for a special occasion worthy of such fine fair. I am happy to report that my 30th birthday (a few weeks ago) proved to be such an occasion. It also didn’t hurt that one of my very best friends was in town to help me celebrate. So, we hopped in the car (with my mom and 9 y/o daughter in tow) and headed over to Lucky’s Café. I have to say that despite its now famous reputation the wait was not long (a little over 20 minutes). Once we were seated, our waiter (Patrick… I think) came over and gave us the run-down. He also gave us a little plastic table tent with the letter Q on it. He explained that instead of waiting on our bill at the end of the meal we could just take our letter up to the counter and our bill would be waiting for us there. What? BRILLIANT! Really? Why is Lucky’s the only place doing this? So, we took a few minutes to look through the menu and soon…. we were ready to order. Here is how that went…
- Almost Foodie: (Lucky’s Cuban Sandwich) Roast Pork, apple slices, ham, cheese and some kind of wonderful sauce. Unfortunately, I cannot remember all the details and I can’t find the item on the online menu. I do know that the sandwich came with a side of potato salad and a pickle.
- Little Miss Foodie: (Omelette) Spinach, mushrooms, zucchini and white cheddar cheese, served in fresh local eggs w/ hash browns & banana bread.
- Mama Foodie: (*Baked Mac-N-Cheese) Cheddar, brie, parmesan, and mozzarella cheeses, baked with pasta and cream topped with brioche bread crumbs and served with house-made apple sauce.
- Friend Foodie: (Shipwreck) A blissful blend of hash browns, eggs, seasonal veggies, bacon, and cheddar cheese, served with house-baked como toast & fresh fruit.
